It’s that time of year again! The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, and the sun is shining. Spring is a time of renewal, and that includes your home. Just like your car needs an oil change and your lawn needs to be mowed, your home needs a little spring maintenance to stay in tip-top shape.
Fortunately, we’ve put together a list of six spring maintenance tips every homeowner should know. From gutters to roofing to HVAC filters, we’ve got you covered. So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and start spring cleaning!
1. Start with a deep clean to get rid of dust, dirt, and cobwebs that have accumulated over the winter. Take this time to also vacuum your stairs and dust your baseboards.
2.Give the exterior of your home a good once-over. Check for cracked paint or any other damages that might have occurred over the past few months, and make sure to repair any damage as soon as possible.
3. Check Your Gutters and Downspouts: Now that you have the exterior of your home looking its best, take a look at your gutters and downspouts. With the spring rains, your gutters could be overflowing with water or blocked with debris like leaves and pine straw. Inspect your gutters and downspouts to make sure they’re clear, and clear any blockages if you find any. Make sure to check that your downspouts are also directed away from your home’s foundation. That way, you won’t have to worry about flooding or other water-related damage.
4. Inspect Your Roof: While you’re up there, take a close look at your roof. Check the shingles for any loose or missing pieces, and make sure there aren’t any large gaps or holes. If you have any questions or concerns reach out to your favorite roofing company to come do a free inspection. If your roof looks good and is in good condition, spring is the perfect time to give it a cleaning. All you need is a garden hose and a soft bristle brush to remove dirt and debris.
5. Give Your Windows and Doors a Good Once-over: Check the windows and doors of your home. Look for any cracks or other signs of damage that might suggest water is seeping in. If you have any wooden windows or doors, look for any signs of rot. And, if your windows and doors are older, check for signs of wear and tear, like paint chipping or squeaky hinges. If you notice any problems, now is the time to fix them.
6. Change Your HVAC Filter, most HVAC filters need to be changed every few months to keep your air clean and your equipment running efficiently. A dirty filter will only clog the system and reduce efficiency, so make sure to keep your filters clean and replace them regularly.
